Public Statement by Dr. Faisal Al‑Mutairi
President, International Diplomatic Union (IDU)
On the Occasion of the International Day of Friendship 30 July 2026
Today, the International Diplomatic Union joins the international community in observing the International Day of Friendship, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly to affirm the place of friendship — between peoples, countries, and cultures — as a foundation for peace, solidarity, and mutual understanding.
This observance reminds us that friendship is not merely a private virtue but a public good: a force capable of bridging differences, sustaining dialogue, and nurturing a culture of peace in an increasingly interconnected yet divided world. Where trust between societies is strong, cooperation follows; where human connection is absent, misunderstanding takes root.
The International Diplomatic Union therefore underscores the importance of cultivating respect, tolerance, and unity — and of encouraging initiatives that draw communities together and strengthen social cohesion, from the local neighbourhood to the international stage.
Consistent with its mandate, the IDU remains committed to fostering intercultural dialogue, cultural exchange, and peaceful coexistence through its programmes, partnerships, and international engagement.
On this day, the International Diplomatic Union calls upon governments, international organizations, and civil society to renew their commitment to friendship, solidarity, and mutual understanding as enduring pillars of a more peaceful and inclusive world.
