Public Statement by Dr. Faisal Al‑Mutairi
President, International Diplomatic Union (IDU)
On the Occasion of the International Day for Judicial Well-being 25 July 2026
Today, the International Diplomatic Union joins the international community in observing the International Day for Judicial Well-being, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly to affirm the importance of safeguarding the health, well-being, and resilience of judges and judicial personnel, and of fostering conditions that strengthen judicial independence and effectiveness.
This observance draws attention to the considerable pressures borne by judicial professionals — among them heavy caseloads, psychological strain, and, in many contexts, threats to their safety and independence. It reminds us that justice cannot be rendered with fairness, integrity, and impartiality unless those entrusted with its administration are themselves adequately supported and protected.
The International Diplomatic Union therefore underscores the need for justice systems that place judicial well-being at their core: systems that promote safe and healthy working environments, provide meaningful institutional support, and thereby reinforce public confidence in the judiciary and the rule of law.
Consistent with its mandate, the IDU remains committed to supporting the advancement of the justice sector through professional training programmes, awareness initiatives, and partnerships with judicial and international institutions — with the aim of enhancing the capacity, stability, and humanity of judicial systems worldwide.
On this day, the International Diplomatic Union calls upon governments, international organizations, and judicial institutions to renew their commitment to the well-being of judges and judicial staff, to safeguard judicial independence, and to work collectively toward justice systems that are both effective and humane.
