Public Statement by Dr. Faisal Al‑Mutairi
President, International Diplomatic Union (IDU)
On the Occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons 30 July 2026
Today, the International Diplomatic Union joins the international community in observing the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly to raise awareness of this grave crime and to strengthen global efforts to prevent trafficking, protect its victims, and bring perpetrators to justice.
Trafficking in persons represents one of the most serious violations of human rights and human dignity in our time. Behind every statistic stands an individual — subjected to exploitation, abuse, or forced labour, and stripped of the freedoms that international law exists to protect. This observance is a solemn reminder that no country is immune, and that dismantling trafficking networks demands sustained, coordinated international action.
The International Diplomatic Union therefore underscores the urgent need to strengthen legal frameworks, deepen international cooperation, and enhance victim protection and survivor support mechanisms — while confronting the root causes that render people vulnerable to trafficking, including poverty, inequality, conflict, and the absence of opportunity.
Consistent with its mandate, the IDU remains committed to supporting the fight against human trafficking through awareness campaigns, capacity-building programmes, and partnerships with international and regional institutions engaged in the protection of human rights.
On this day, the International Diplomatic Union calls upon governments, international organizations, and civil society to renew their resolve to end trafficking in persons, to protect those most at risk, and to ensure justice, dignity, and restoration for every victim and survivor.
