On the Occasion of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy – 24 June 2026
Today, the International Diplomatic Union joins the global community in commemorating the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, a United Nations observance that recognizes the indispensable contributions of women to diplomacy, peacebuilding, and international cooperation.
This day serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative role women play in shaping dialogue, resolving conflicts, and fostering mutual understanding among nations. Their leadership, insight, and commitment continue to strengthen multilateralism and advance the principles of peace, equality, and sustainable development.
The observance also underscores the urgent need to expand women’s representation in diplomatic and decision‑making roles at all levels. Ensuring equal opportunities for women to participate fully in global affairs is not only a matter of fairness—it is essential to building more inclusive, resilient, and effective international institutions.
In alignment with its mandate, the International Diplomatic Union remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering women in diplomacy. Through training programmes, leadership development initiatives, and partnerships with regional and international institutions, the IDU works to enhance women’s participation, strengthen their leadership capacities, and support their advancement within the global diplomatic community.
Across the world, today’s commemorations—including conferences, seminars, and awareness campaigns—highlight both the achievements of women in diplomacy and the challenges that persist. These activities reinforce the collective responsibility to remove barriers, promote gender equality, and ensure that women’s voices are heard and valued in all spheres of international engagement.
On this occasion, the International Diplomatic Union calls upon governments, international organizations, and civil society to reaffirm their commitment to advancing women’s participation in diplomacy, promoting equality, and working together toward a more inclusive and equitable international system.
